Watercolour Tulip

Hello everyone,

Today's post is one of three watercolour tulip birthday cards.

The image is Magenta Tulip which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Stampin' Up Very Vanilla.  The image is layered on Colorbök Watercolor Rainbow paper and Close To My Heart New England Ivy.  The sentiment is Sweet & Sassy Birthday Greetings stamped in Altenew Lava Rock.

This is a really lovely tulip stamp and like the previous Magenta stamps used in this watercolour series, it's perfect for this technique.  It's a not a very intricate stamp and the lines provide ample surface for the crayon.  I love this cheerful yellow tulip and the simple layout is great for highlighting the bloom.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Bird In Burgundy

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the second watercolour bird birthday card.

The image is Magenta which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White.  The image was layered on Close To My Heart Vineyard Berry, a piece of Ranger alcohol inked glossy paper and a gold of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Gina K Garden Silhouettes stamped in Stampin' Up Bravo Burgundy.

I love this bird card as much as I did yesterday's card.  This is such a different card from yesterday's even though the image and stamping technique is the same.  This image is just as spectacular in burgundy as it is in blue.  I love how well the image looks against the alcohol inked layer.  It's almost as though the bird is flapping the colour around.  It was really hard to give these cards away.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Bird In Blue

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour birthday card is one of two sweet bird cards.

The image is Magenta which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on a Bazzill grey and Momenta cardstock.  The sentiment is Joy Crafts Sayings 6410/0308 stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.

I have always loved this stamp and don't use it nearly enough.  I wanted to craft a more masculine card and thought a bluebird would work nicely.  I found the final impression was so striking, I ended up stamping a second image.  I ended up have to redo the Momenta layer because I really goofed when I stamped the sentiment and couldn't fix it.  It happens!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Blooms III

Hello everyone,

Another set of watercolour birthday blooms today.

The image is Magenta Bachelor's Button which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Stampin' Up Very Vanilla and layered on Close To My Heart Hollyhock and Fern.  The sentiment is Avery Elle So Happy stamped in Altenew Moss.  The embellishment is Close To My Heart Bitty Sparkles.

This is another favourite stamp for using the watercolour crayon technique.  I especially like the size of this stamp because it has a lot of surface for the crayon.  It can be difficult though if too much water is applied.  This ended up being such a pretty result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Blooms II

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour birthday card is all about the vertical.

The image is Magenta Peaceful Blooms which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin' Up Soft Suede.  The focal panel was layered on Stampin' Up Soft Suede and Pale Plum.  The embellishments are Petal Pink Liquid Pearls.

This is the perfect stamp for this watercolour technique as the elements are very simple, making it easy to apply the crayon.  It is also the perfect scale for using a vertical sentiment.  I've always loved brown and pink together.  These are the same colours I used on the stamp so the the flow is really nice.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour For Him

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card post is the masculine version of yesterday's card.

The image is Stampin' Up Simply Sketched which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on Stampin' Up Always Artichoke and Night of Navy.  The sentiment is Gina K Pleasant Plurals stamped in Night of Navy ink.  The punched banners are Always Artichoke.  The embellishments are Eyelet Outlet Enamel Dots.

I love this card as much as yesterday's feminine version.  I added layers that were just a bit wider than the feminine card to give it a bit more umph.  The banners are a favourite inclusion on many of the more masculine cards that I craft.  The sentiment has a no nonsense and simple font.  I uses the darkest of blue enamel dots that I could find in my stash and though they don't match the navy layer perfectly, they work very well with the berries in the image.  I'm rather hoping that there may be a couple at the seniors residence that can be the recipients of these two beautiful cards.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour For Her

Hello everyone,

I decided to craft a pair of cards using the same images, layers and layout for a feminine version and a masculine version.

The image is Stampin' Up Simply Sketched which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on Stampin' Up Always Artichoke and Night of Navy.  The sentiment is Gina K Fanciful Tags stamped in Night of Navy.  The embellishment is a Martha Stewart Lace Butterfly sticker.

This is a lovely image which is just perfect for the watercolouring technique I've been doing for the past number of days.  It's wonderfully delicate and a great scale for these smaller card bases I've been using.  For this feminine version, I uses a sentiment with a more delicate and swirly font and added an equally delicate embellishment.  I'm really loving all these clean and simple cards not only because this technique is awesome but because I've used some great stamps that haven't seen the light of day in a while.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Poppy

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another watercolor birthday card.

The image is Stampin' Up Asian Artistry which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White. The image panel was layered on a black Bazzill, and red and gold Black Ink Decorative Paper.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up It's Your Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.

I've purposely kept these watercolour cards simple in terms of layouts and embellishments because I want the focus to be on the striking images.  In this case, I decided to use some fancy papers for layering.  While these papers are beautiful, I find them a little tricky to use.  Cutting requires a fresh new blade otherwise, it just tears.  Applying adhesive can also be a challenge because the paper is rather delicate and will buckle and shift.  That said, in this particular case the card turned out exactly as I'd hoped.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Bird

Hello everyone,

Today's post continues with the watercolour birthday cards I've been crafting over the past number of days.

The background image is Stampin' Up You've Got This stamped in Stampin' Up River Rock.  The image is Stampin' Up Simply Sketched which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on River Rock and Bravo Burgundy.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up All Holidays stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite.

I have been having the most wonderful time stamping with watercolour crayons.  This is such an easy but effective stamping technique.  I really like this Simply Sketched stamp set for this technique.  They are quite easy to colour and I love the natural elements.  This card is a particular favourite.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Butterfly

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour card has a lovely stamped background.

The image is Impression Obsession Butterfly which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on a white of unknown origin.  The image is layered on a piece of shaving cream and re-inker paper and a rust Bazzill.  The background image is Impression Obsession Large Flourishes stamped in Stampin' Up Creamy Caramel and highlighted with Copper Pearl Liquid Pearls.  The sentiment is Gina K Framed Greetings stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso.

This is a background that works!  The lines of these flourishes work really well with the watercolour image.  I'm loving the warms colours of the stamped image and am thrilled that they work so great with this scrap of shaving creamed paper that I did almost a year ago.  This is a card I just love!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Dragonfly

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour birthday card is also Asian inspired.

The image is Stampin' Up Asian Artistry which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on Stampin' Up Sahara Sand.  The background image is Stampin' Up Watercolour Wash stamped in Altenew Limestone.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Warmest Regards stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite.

I really like using background stamps and thought I'd give it a try with a watercolour image.  I'm not sure if I like it or not.  It's still a somewhat clean and simple card and the ink colour in the background works well with the image panel.  I just think there is something 'off' but I can't quite figure out what it is.  I still like this card a lot, I just wish I could figure out what bothers me about it.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Bamboo Birdie

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour has the more Asian look and feel that I was hoping for with yesterday's card.

The image is Stampin' Up Asian Artistry which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on a piece of Ranger alcohol inked glossy paper and a gold of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite on more Recollections White and layered on more gold.

This is a favourite!  It's quite clean and simple with the focus all on the image.  I stunned myself with how well the image stamped!  I found this scrap piece of alcohol inked paper in my stash and it worked perfectly with the colours in the image.  It's awesome when that happens!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Blooms

Hello everyone,

Today's watercolour birthday card has a couple of beautiful blossoms.

The image is Stampin' Up Asian Artistry which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White and layered on Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry and Wild Wasabi, and Colorbök Energized Ombre.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Altenew Lava Rock and layered on more Rich Razzleberry.  The ribbon is Multicrafts.

This is a great stamp with which to use watercolour crayons.  It wasn't exactly the card I had in mind when I was stamping the image.  I intended the card to have a more Asian feel but I didn't have a coordinating oriental-styled printed paper that would work with the colours in the image.  The layout is a little staid but it's still a very lovely card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Watercolour Tulips

Hello everyone,

The next dozen or so birthday cards use watercolour crayons instead of ink for stamping the images as well as a host of Stampin' Up stamps that I dusted off.

The image is Stampin' Up Blessed Easter which was coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and spritzed with water then stamped on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Short & Sweet stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite.  The focal panel was layered on Stampin' Up Rose Red and Garden Green.

This is one of my favourite stamping techniques.  I find it only really works with red rubber stamps.  It can be tricky, not enough water and the image won't stamp or, too much water and the image bleeds horribly.  I really have to dig out my not readily available supplies for this type of stamping so I tend to do a whole bunch of images at the same time.  With the seventy birthday cards in this series, I figured this was the perfect excuse to play.  I have a dozen or more images that I'll turn into some really great birthday cards.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Bit Of Bling

Hello everyone,

I've another really cheerful birthday card to post today.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a bright pink Bazzill.  The sentiment is Crafters Companion Die'sire die cut from Recollections White and layered on more bright pink Bazzill and Recollections White.  The ribbon is Multicrafts.  The embellishment is Forever In Time Ice.

I think this is another piece of scrap from the same collection as the paper from the cards of the past couple of days.  Although I love the multitude of bright colours in the last couple of cards, there is something so bright and crisp about this pink and white checked paper.  I love how the white die cut sentiment pops against the bright pink.  I also especially love the contrast between the simple checked pattern and the single bold bit of the bling.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bright Zig Zag Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another birthday card uses more of the same paper collection as yesterday's card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a purple Bazzill.  The image is Stampin' Up Work of Art stamped in Altenew Midnight Violet on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Creative Expressions Amazing Sentiments also stamped in Midnight Violet on Recollections White and layered on more purple Bazzill.  The embellishments are Paper House 3D puffy stickers.

I think this bright zig zag printed paper is really wonderful.  It is clearly part of the same collection as yesterday's card because the colours are exactly the same.  I love them for these cheerful birthday cards.  I was also happily surprised at how well the puffy stickers coordinated with the paper.  I think these bright, beautiful cards will be great for winter birthdays.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bright Daisy Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a bright and cheerful daisy birthday card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a bright pink Bazzill.  The sentiment is Creative Expressions Petite Scribbled Sentiments stamped in Stampin' Up Melon Mambo on Recollections White.  The daisy flower embellishment is a Paper House 3D puffy sticker.

This is such bright pretty paper.  It absolutely cried out for this large daisy sticker!  Both the paper and this set of puffy stickers are Crop A While donations.  With an embellishment this large, I found it best to keep everything pretty straightforward.  I really wanted the daisy to be the focal point.  I wasn't sure about the sticker as it's a very much a 'photo' image and I thought it might look weird against this background paper.  Once I got it on the card however I thought it actually looked quite pretty.  I think this is a wonderfully cheerful birthday card that would be great to receive in the depths of a cold Ottawa winter.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Neutral Paisleys

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card features a really lovely neutral paisley.

The printed paper is K&Company Studio 112 layered on a black Bazzill and Recollections Kraft.  The images are Impression Obsession Paisleys stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Annabelle Stamps All Things Grow also stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and layered on more black and Kraft.  The sentiment panel is highlighted with Onyx Pearl Liquid Pearls.

When I came across this paper pad in the box of Crop A While donations I found it extremely appealing.  The pad contains a variety of prints that I thought would work great for masculine cards, especially in this colour palette.  Like butterflies and holly, I have a real soft spot for paisleys so when I came across this piece of paper I knew I'd use it for a card.  I don't think it's all that masculine but the neutral colours are still great for a more feminine card.  I was really impressed with the stamped paisleys.  These are really detailed stamps and the Versafine worked beautifully.  I like how well the font of the sentiment works with the lines in the paisleys.  It's always wonderful when the results are so pleasing.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Glorious Golden Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another birthday card featuring a butterfly.

The printed paper is Kaisercraft Elegance Collection layered on a gold of unknown origin and Close To My Heart Juniper.  The sentiment is Gina Marie All Seasons stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite on Stampin' Up Whisper White and layered on more Juniper.  The sentiment is highlighted with Gold Pearl Liquid Pearls.

I had to trim this piece of scrap so as not to cut away the butterflies that I really wanted to highlight.  I attempted to emboss the gold layer but by the time it went through my Big Shot, I lost the crispness of the images.  I decided to just leave the layer solid and I'm rather happy with the result.  The printed paper really pops and the butterflies are as prominent as I'd hoped.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Balloon Cake Topper

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card uses another awesome donated sticker.

The printed paper is of unknown origin.  The sticker is also of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes stamped in Altenew Sapphire.

My biggest concern with this card is that it's so top heavy, I'm worried that it may not stay upright.  I really love this sticker as it's big, bold and beautiful.  I think it was previously enjoyed because the backing was off and one of the wires was missing it's topper.  I decide however to persevere and just run with it because it's actually such an awesome sticker, I couldn't resist.  I love the small sentiment in contrast to the big sticker.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bold Senitment

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card is ridiculously straightforward.

The background layers are Colorbök Watercolor Rainbow cardstock and Colorbök Energized Ombre cardstock.  The embellishment is of unknown origin highlighted with an embellishment of unknown origin and Turquoise Stickles.

This amazing sentiment sticker was found in the box of Crop A While donations.  It couldn't have been more perfect for a card in this birthday card series.  I originally thought I'd layer it on some printed paper but I really wanted this big, bold sticker to pop!  I found some great paper with which to coordinate.  I had actually forgotten that I'd had this great watercolor paper in my stash.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Butterflies In Blue

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another beautiful butterfly birthday card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a black Bazzill.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Happy Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The embellishments are TPC Studio So Delish mini jewels.

What I said yesterday about everything butterfly in my stash is ditto today.  This particular piece of donated scrap was especially appealing because the butterflies are blue, one of my favourite colours. This paper pops so spectacularly against the white and black.  The butterflies are a little large in scale for a card but that turned out to be a non-issue because of the layout, simple sentiment and minimal embellishments.  A fabulous result!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bevy Of Butterflies

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card is all butterflies.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill burgundy and a Bazzill green.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Curly Cute stamped in Bravo Burgundy on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more burgundy.  The butterfly embellishment was paper punched from more green that was coloured with Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.  The butterfly and card are highlighted with Petal Pink Liquid Pearls.

Ever since I started cardmaking, I've had a real affinity for anything with butterflies - stamps, punches, dies, paper - it generally makes it into my stash.  I'm working hard to resist as the stash is ridiculous.  When I came across this paper in a box of donations from Crop A While, I didn't even think twice.  There were dozens of scraps and while I usually only keep one or two, I kept at least half a dozen of these pieces.  I love the colours and the scale of the butterflies is just perfect for cards.  I can't wait to craft more of these sweet butterfly cards.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Neutral And Serene

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card is the complete opposite of yesterday's card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up River Rock.  The images are Close To My Heart Brushstrokes stamped in River Rock and Stampin' Up Summer Silhouettes stamped in Altenew Evening Grey.  The sentiment is Impression Obsession Die 74-W Greeting Set die cut in Soft Suede.  The embellishments are My Mind's Eye Unforgettable "Firsts" enamel dots.

I love this card!  It's so wonderfully neutral and utterly serene.  It still uses the layered stamping technique that I love doing so very much.  I picked out this piece of paper in the box of donations expressly because it was perfect for stamping.  I added this this birthday die cut to my stash because I wanted some variety and this set offered some great options.  I had to play with the layout quite a bit to make it pleasing to the eye but the final results are awesome!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Total Mishmash

Hello everyone,

I think I was completely undecided when I was crafting today's birthday card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin.  The background images are Gina K Timeless Textures stamped in Close To My Heart Juniper and Twilight inks.  The sentiment is Gina K Block Greetings stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Stampin' Up Very Vanilla.  The sentiment panel is layered on more Very Vanilla that was stamped with Hero Arts La Letter stamped in more Twilight.  The embellishments are BasicGrey Metal Studs.

I'd like to say I didn't know what I was thinking when I went all angles and grunge with this card but I was so happy with the layered stamping on Sunday's card that I was looking to craft another card using the same technique.  Maybe I should have stopped while I was ahead.  This is a real mishmash of angles and textures that is totally outside of my comfort zone.  This isn't a bad card, it's just different.  I'm still going to include it in this commission as there could be a senior in residence who's a rebel!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Spectacularly Striped

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card uses some great paper donated by Crop A While.

The printed paper is of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Penny Black Happy, Happy stamped in Stampin' Up Night of Navy on Very Vanilla.  The branch is cut from a piece of Ranger alcohol inked glossy paper with a Docrafts X Cut Leaves die.

I found this scrap of donated paper with a border already punched.  I don't know if it was punched separately or if the paper was manufactured with the border.  I was able to trim it perfectly even which makes me grateful that I used these smaller card bases.  It took me quite a while to figure out an embellishment so when I found this piece of alcohol inked paper in my stash, I was ecstatic!  The colours of the paper coordinate perfectly with the colours of the stripes.  I seriously doubt I could have replicated this happy accident on purpose.  It sent me to a very, very happy place!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Surefire Simple

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card was ridiculously simple.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Soft Suede.  The sentiment is Stampabilities Happy Birthday 01 stamped in Close To My Heart Outdoor Denim on Recollections Vanilla.  The embellishment is Close To My Heart Round Durables.

I love everything about this amazing printed paper!  The colours and pattern were so appealing that I just added a solid layer, stamped a sentiment with a strong font in a coordinating colour and added a solid embellishment.  It probably took me more time to find an embellishment than to actually craft this super easy card.  Again, while I was originally thinking masculine, this card is pretty neutral overall.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

The Flip Side

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card uses the flip side of the paper used in yesterday's card.

The printed paper are of unknown origin.  The images are Stampin' Up Timeless Textures and BoBunny Falling Leaves stamped in Close To My Heart Whisper and Slate inks on Stampin' Up Very Vanilla.  The sentiment is Gina K Labeled With Love stamped in Altenew Jet Black.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on more printed paper.

I didn't realize how awesome the flip side of yesterday's striped paper was until I'd finished the card.  I decided to try an mimic the printed paper by doing some layered stamping.  I think it turned out rather well.  I thought this would be a very masculine card but it's actually quite neutral.I really enjoy layering images especially using subtly different ink colours.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

An Acorn Wish

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a more masculine birthday card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill orange.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso on Recollections Vanilla and highlighted with Avocado Liquid Pearls.  The wooden embellishment is of unknown origin sponged with Altenew Autumn Blaze, Bamboo, Espresso, Firebrick, Mocha and Orange Cream.

I found a number of these wooden embellishments in the Crop A While box of donations.  I didn't quite know what I was going to do with them but I found them very appealing.  I decided this striped paper would make a perfect backdrop for this wooden oak leaf and acorn.  I'm not sure a busier background paper would have worked as well.  I also like the fall colours in the strips and figured if I echoed them when I sponged the embellishment, it would probably work out all right.  It's actually even better than I imagined.  This would be the perfect card for a nature lover!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Twinkling Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card is an example of productive play time.

The images are Stampin' Up Bordering on Romance stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed with Close To My Heart gold embossing powder.  The images are painted with LuminArte Deep Coral, Forest Green and Mango Mambo Twinkling H20s.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Best Wishes also stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed in Close To My Heart gold embossing powder.

I will never claim to be a painter but I get this yen every once in a while to try my skills.  In this particular case I'm more than happy to claim this card.  The painting  turned out way better than I ever expected!  Whenever I decide to try to paint, this is one of my go to images.  It's pretty easy to paint but still allows for some shading practice.  I like painting embossed images because it's a little easier to stay within the lines which allows me to focus more on shading.  I don't know why that is my biggest challenge.  Regardless, this is a great card and I'm thrilled with the painting.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.
