In Teal & Gold

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a French birthday card commissioned by a colleague for his mother.

The images are Altenew Frosted Garden stamped in VersaMark on Recollections Vanilla and heat embossed with Close To My Heart gold embossing embossing powder.  The sentiment is Bonnidee French Wording #1 stamped in Stampin' Up Taken With Teal on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Taken With Teal.  The image and sentiment are layered on a printed paper of unknown origin and gold of unknown origin.  The embellishments are Crystal Stickers Teal Elements.

I didn't have much to go on when crafting this card so I started with this great piece of printed paper.  I love the design and the teal and gold elements are beautiful together.  This is a card from a son so I didn't want to be too overly feminine so even though this is definitely a floral, it's still most appropriate.  I love the angled images and sentiment, it's a design element that I've been drawn to the last little while that seems to be working.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Asian Congratulations

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a retirement card I crafted for one of our neighbors.

The card base is Craft Smith. The image is Stampin' Up Artistically Asian stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on a specialty paper of unknown origin and layered on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Curly Cute stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.  The embellishments are from Fabricland.

Our neighbor has an affinity for Asia so I thought using rice paper and a bamboo image would be perfect for his retirement card.  I love this piece of rice paper (you need a sharp, sharp blade to cut it nicely) with it's gold and black flakes.  I love the angled sentiment and the gold embellishments add just the right amount of shine.  It's a nicely masculine card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Winged Wish

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card that uses leftover printed paper from yesterday's sympathy card.

The card base is Recollections.  The printed paper is Kaisercraft "Enchanted Garden" Fly layered on Stampin' Up Soft Suede and Groovy Guava.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Small Script stamped in Soft Suede on Recollections Vanilla.  The embellishment is Close To My Heart Gold Bling Gems.

This card uses a few leftover bits from earlier cards that were on my desk.  It seemed easier to make a card than actually put them away!  I love the angled sentiment from this very old Stampin' Up set.  I was quite pleased with this Groovy Guava banner which couldn't coordinate any better with the printed paper. I actually think I brought the leftovers together into a lovely card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Butterflies of Sympathy

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a sympathy card I crafted for a friend whose mother passed away.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The printed paper is Kaisercraft "Enchanted Garden" Fly.  The sentiment is Verve Forever In Our Hearts stamped in Stampin' Up Soft Suede on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Soft Suede.  The butterfly is Joy Crafts Vintage Flourishes 6003/0023 cut from a shimmery vanilla of unknown origin.

It's one thing to craft sympathy cards for my office stash but much more sentimental to craft one for a friend.  I was really drawn to this paper, loving the colours and style of the butterflies and all the glitter is perfect for my girlfriend even in sympathy.  This is a favourite sentiment for sympathy cards because it is so very heartfelt.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Musical Birthday

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a card that I crafted for a girlfriend a couple of months back.

The printed paper is Forever In Time layered on Paper Accents Glossy Gold and Stampin' Up Early Espresso.  The sentiment is Crafter's Companion Happy Birthday Die'sire cut from more gold and layered on a Bazzill Vanilla that was textured with Crafts-Too Musical Notes embossing folder.  The ribbon is Offray.  The '50' is a Making Memories Sticker.

My girlfriend wanted a special 50th birthday card for a musical friend.  I love making musical cards!  The colours in this printed paper offer wonderful coordinating options.  Having a chance to use this musical notes embossing folder just makes me happy!  She loved the results as much as I did!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Painted Poppy

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a simple poppy birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Altenew Painted Poppy stamped in StazOn Jet Black and Altenew Deep Iris, Midnight Violet, Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades and Evergreen on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

I'm not certain if poppies are suppose to be purple but I love the purple/green colour combination.  I chose this poppy because it works so wonderfully with a vertical sentiment.  This is the final birthday card in this commission.  I have had so much crafting these cards.  Some came together more easily than others but I'm so pleased with all the results.

I hope you enjoy this card, and have enjoyed this series, and come back to SPI again soon.

Two Blooms And A Butterfly

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another favourite birthday card in this commission.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The images are Altenew Wild Hibiscus stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and cut with the coordinating die.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Curly Cute also stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White.  The card is highlighted with Platinum Liquid Pearls.

Every time I use this Altenew set, I love it even more.  The image are fairly simple to colour, not requiring any perfection and the dies are easy to center.  I chose paler shades of blue because I wanted to use a blue card base (there are a lot of pinks and oranges).  I think I was a bit too generous with the Liquid Pearls but as the images are a fairly good size, it's okay.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon

More Romantic Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a cooler version of yesterday's birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The images are Stampin' Up Bordering on Romance stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and coloured with a variety of Faber-Castell and Reeves watercolour pencil crayons.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday also stamped in StazOn Jet Black.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on Recollections Black and a white of unknown origin.  The embellishments are Crafts rhinestone stickers.

This is one of my favourite images to colour because it's not terrifically complex.  I used black for layering again and the wide white reveal the width of the card base is really effective.  I could have added more rhinestones but I truly love this card as is.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Romantic Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a beautiful hand coloured floral birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The images are Stampin' Up Bordering On Romance stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and coloured with a variety of Faber-Castell and Reeves watercolour pencil crayons.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday also stamped in StazOn Jet Black.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on Recollections Black, Close To My Heart Orange and Recollections White.

I was so pleased with yesterday's colour combination I decided to repeat it with this card.  I also love the reveal of black as it just makes the image/sentiment panel pop.  I chose more warm colours for this card and kept the layout simple.  This is actually reminiscent of cards I've crafted in the past and I love it every single time.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Terrific Tulip

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another lovely spring birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Art Impressions stamped in Tombow 772, 873, 062, 158 and 098 on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin' Up Always Artichoke on more Recollections White.  The sentiment and image panels are layered on Close To My Heart Tangerine and Always Artichoke.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

Like yesterday's strawberry card, this Art Impressions tulip stamp is great!  It's easy to colour with markers and always leaves a wonderful image.  I love the layered sentiment; a combination I cased from a girlfriend.  The Tangerine layer on this pink card base is unexpectedly pleasing.  So much so that I'd easily repeat it.  A great result!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Berry Birthday

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a great summer birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Art Impressions Strawberry coloured with Tombow 249 and 847, and stamped on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on more Recollections White.  The image and sentiment are layered on Close To My Heart Pomegranate, and Recollections Black and White.  The embellishments are Watermelon Oregon Raindrops.

This is another favourite stamp that I had to dust off to use.  I bought it because my mother loves strawberries and I figured I'd use it more often than I have.  It's a great stamp and is really easy to colour.  It's also a great size for a smaller card.  The more formal font of the sentiment and the layer of black makes this simple card a little more sophisticated.  A really wonderful result!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Prettily Winged

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a fantastically feminine birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Inkadinkado stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons.  The sentiment is Gina K Block Greetings stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The embellishments are Bottle Green Oregon Raindrops.

This card is more amazing than I could have imagined!  I loved the image when I first laid eyes on it and it just doesn't disappoint.  I figured it would be pretty easy to colour because it of the 'sketched' style.  It doesn't have to be perfect.  I used watercolour crayons because I find them easier to control than markers.  The image is actually fairly large and it wouldn't fit well on this smaller card base without trimming.  I restrained myself with the embellishments though it took me a while to find pleasing colours.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

More Winged Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card with a European feel.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is the Artful Stamper stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and coloured with a variety of Faber-Castell and Reeves watercolour pencil crayons.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Itty Bitty Greetings stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.  The image and sentiment are highlighted with Star Dust, Lavender and Gilded Gold Stickles.

This is perhaps my least favourite card in this commission.  I found the image appealing at first, but once I had it stamped and coloured, I couldn't get much enthusiasm for it.  I decided to cut the image, which helped somewhat but I think it's so far out of my comfort zone that it just doesn't do much for me.  Even Stickles didn't help.  It's not a bad card by any stretch but it's not one that I'd ever repeat.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Striking Wings

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a wonderful shimmery birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is The Stamp Barn stamped on Recollections Vanilla with Tsukineko Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate, Pearlescent Crimson and Pearlescent Rust.  The image is layered on a shimmery copper and a shimmery brown of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Altenew Birthday Builder stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso.

This was a great stamp for blending inks.  The Tsukineko inks that I have are the cat's eye spots which are the perfect shape and size for this technique.  Overall, it's a pretty simple image in a good size.  I debated adding some embellishments but it didn't really need them in the end.  I absolutely love the results.  Everything works so well from the card base, to the ink colours, to the layers.  Would that every card come together so easily.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

The Perfect Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's post is one of my favourites in this commission of birthday cards.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is the Artful Stamper stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White, coloured with a variety of Stampin' Up watercolour crayons and layered on Close To My Heart Sweet Leaf and Recollections Black.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday also stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White and layered on more Sweet Leaf.  The card is highlighted with Lime Green Stickles.

Oh my goodness how I just love this stamp!  The possibilities are absolutely endless!  It stamped beautifully and was remarkable easy to colour.  I can't wait to play with it some more.  The sentiment placed at the bottom of the card provides a great anchor.  Though this image would work very well horizontally too.  I'm extremely happy with the Stickle placement - something which I wish would happen more often.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Garden Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a very sweet garden-inspired birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Stampin' Up Pocket Silhouettes stamped in Altenew Mountain Mist, Mango Smoothie, Frayed Leaf and Lavender Fields on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Creative Expressions Scribbled Sentiment stamped in Altenew Industrial Diamond.  The ribbon is American Crafts.  The embellishments are Crafts rhinestone stickers.

I've always loved this Pocket Silhouettes stamp set!  From the moment I first got it, every card I've crafted using it has turned out beautifully.  This card is actually similar to a 2014 Mother's Day card that I crafted for a beginner's class.  The colours in this example work wonderfully with the card base.  The bits of bling on the ribbon just make me happy!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Cardinal Red

Hello everyone,

Today's card is a fantastic red birthday card.

The card base is Stampin' Up Real Red.  The image is Close To My Heart Fabulous You stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White and coloured with Stampin' Up Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities markers and Tombow 055.  The sentiment is Creative Expressions Petite Scribbled Sentiments 'Everyday' also stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.  The image and sentiment panels are layered on Recollections Black and Recollections White.  The embellishments are Crafts rhinestone stickers.

Given my personal challenge for this commission was to use stamped images, I couldn't help but use these great larger Close To My Heart images.  This cardinal had me thinking of my father.  This is a simple panel card.  Once I'd selected all the elements, it came together really quick and easy.  The result is very striking as a red/white/black colour combination is 'no fail'.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Blossoming Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a great birthday card is Japanese inspired.

The card base is  The Paper Studio.  The image is Close To My Heart Japanese Blossom stamped in Altenew Industrial Diamond on Recollections White, layered on Stampin' Up Basic Grey and Close To My Heart Petal and highlighted with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday also stamped in Altenew Industrial Diamond on Recollections White.  The embellishments are Forever In Time Diamond Pearl Strips.

This is another single stamp that is very quick and easy to use with great results every time.  I didn't worry all that much about the script on the stamps but focused instead on the image.  In the last few commissions I didn't for the senior's residence I include at least a few Asian inspired cards.  This is a much more different card than previous ones as it doesn't rely on printed paper.  The sentiment is a perfect match.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Pink Floral Spray

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card that uses another favourite image.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Altenew Extra Special stamped in Versafine Onyx Black, and Altenew Pink Pearl, Rouge, Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades on Recollections White.  The image was cut with the coordinating die.  The sentiment is Verve Amazing Wishes stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The embellishments are Crafts rhinestone stickers.

Like Altenew's Frosted Garden set, this Extra Special stamp is a 'go to' set for any type of card I'm crafting.  It's another very easy set to use even though it's got quite a few pieces.  I chose to stamp in pink this time because of the color card base I selected.  It's worked great however in every colour I've used. I only added gems to the flowers but could easily have added them to the card base as well.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Blooming Spring Flowers

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a really pretty spring tulip card.

The card base is Recollections White.  The images are Stampin' Up Tranquil Tulips stamped in Altenew Evening Grey, Lavender Fields, Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Moss, Maple Yellow, Citrus Burst, Crimson and Coral Bliss on Recollections White.  The image panel is layered on Close To My Heart New England Ivy and a red Bazzill.  The sentiment is Impression Obsession Vertical Greetings stamped in Altenew Moss.

Again, I'm so craving spring I'll take images of tulips as opposed to the real ones at this point.  I love the more fun aspect of these tulips and the subtle grape hyacinths are just lovely.  The more fun stamped images work great with this funky styled vertical sentiment.  All together, it's an awesome card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Navy Floral

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a lovely navy floral birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Altenew Frosted Garden stamped in Avery Elle New Moon on Recollections White and cut with the coordinating die.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Thoughtful Messages also stamped in Avery Elle New Moon on Recollections White.  The card is highlighted with White Opal Liquid Pearls.

This set is fast becoming a 'go to' for any type of card I'm crafting.  I wasn't sure when I made the purchase because the set seemed a little fussy.  It's proven to be a great addition to my stash.  It's easy to use and with a coordinating die cut, turns out beautifully every single time.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simple Purple Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another simple floral birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Close To My Heart Thoughtful You stamped in Altenew Moss and Stampin' Up Perfect Plum on Recollections White and layered on Stampin' Up Old Olive.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Moss on Recollections White and highlighted with Lavender Stickles.  The ribbon is Stampin' Up Organza.

This is a set I've had for eons.  I actually think it was one of the first two-step stamps I ever purchased.  It's very easy to use as the simple lines and solid fill don't have to be perfectly aligned.  I actually love the simplicity.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

More Butterfly Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another quick and simple birthday card.

The card base is Craft Smith.  The image is Close To My Heart Quick Cards: Butterfly stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White and layered on Close To My Heart Blossom and Recollections Black.  The sentiment is Penny Black Special Wishes also stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.

This is another simply stamped card.  I have a number of these larger single images that I've not used often but are great for craft quick and easy cards.  It's a pretty detailed image which is why I used the Versafine but I think it would be also be great in a blend of inks. I chose to use a pink/black/grey colour combination because it's a little more sophisticated and it's one that I love using.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Robin's Wish

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a great simple birthday card.

The card base is Craft Smith.  The image is Close To My Heart Fabulous You.  The image is stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso on Recollections White and colored with Reeves watercolor pencil crayons.  The image panel is layered on Early Espresso and Close To My Heart Sorbet.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday also stamped in Early Espresso on Recollections White.  The embellishments are Echo Park "Imagine That" enamel dots.

I'm so ready for spring and this robin card is yet another wish that it gets here soon!  I've had this stamp for eons but have used it only a few times.  It doesn't necessarily require colouring but it's so much better when you do.  It's not the greatest colouring ever but it was enough to make the birds and blooms pop.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Chintz Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another subtle floral birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Stampin' Up Painted Petals stamped in Altenew Frosty Pink, Rose Quartz, Pink Diamond and Frayed Leaf on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday stamped in Altenew Industrial Diamond.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on a pale pink Bazzill that was textured with Sizzix Flourish Texturz plate and sprayed with Tattered Angels Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist.  The ribbon is Michaels.  The flower embellishments is of unknown origin highlighted with Fruit Punch Stickles.

Except for the flower embellishment, this is one very subtly stamp birthday card.  Again, it's not quite as pale as the photo suggests but it is pretty soft.  I was attempting to mimic a vintage chintz fabric.  In this particular case, it ended up being a well worn piece of chintz.  No matter, I'm still very pleased with the final result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Lavender Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a lovely lavender birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Stampin' Up Lots of Lavender stamped in Altenew Frayed Leaf, Deep Iris and Lavender Fields on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Close To My Heart Ponderosa Pine on Recollections White.  The image and sentiment are layered on a purple Bazzill and more Ponderosa Pine.

This is yet another two-step stamp that I absolutely love.  To be fair, I've only ever used the lavender image and there are a few more that could be interesting when I find more time to play.  I love this stamp because it really isn't meant to be perfect!  As I look at the photo, I realize I should have added a bit of glitter to some of the branches for more interest.  No matter, it's still a great result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bright Floral Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another lovely floral birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The image is Stampin' Up Petal Prints stamped in Altenew Frayed Leaf, Fresh Lemon, Ocean Waves, Pinkalicious and Lavender Fields on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Avery Elle So Happy stamped in Altenew Moss.  The butterfly embellishment is Forever In Time Foil Glitter Stickers.

As subtle as yesterday's card was, today's is bright and cheerful.  This is another two-step stamp set that is easy to stamp and the results are wonderful.  I used a more subtle green for the outline as I wanted the colours to really pop and they certainly do!  Maybe a little too much?  The colours in the butterfly sticker are not a perfect match to the colours in the card but it's close enough.

I hope you enjoy these cards and come back to SPI again soon.

Subtle Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another sweet and subtle birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The images are Stampin' Up Pressed Flowers stamped in Altenew Mountain Mist, Sea Glass, Buttercream and Blush on Recollections White.  The sentiment is Elizabeth Craft Design Sentiments 1 - Celebration stamped in Altenew Lagoon.  The image/sentiment panel are layered on Close To My Heart Buttercup and Baby Pink.  The butterfly was retrieved from the leftovers bin.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

I'm not one for stamping 'scenes' perse but I will admit that I readily enjoy crafting this style of floral card. It's not actually a scene so that's probably why I like the results so much.  This subtle card is really appealing even though it's a little more pale than I'd like.  I could have used the next darker ink tone but I didn't want it too dark either.  Finding just the right little butterfly was icing on the cake.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simple Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a very simple birthday card.

The card base is The Paper Studio.  The images are Stampin' Up Serene Garden stamped in Altenew Minty Mint on Recollections White and highlighted with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Four You stamped in Altenew Hunter Green.

As simple as this card was, it took me a couple of attempts to get it right.  I smeared the sentiment on the first attempt.  I used the MISTI to align the images so the corners and edges were straight.  It's not quite as pale as this photo depicts.  I have the coordinating die but have yet to figure out how to make it work effectively.  I love that it's a pretty simple card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Botanical Trio

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a great trio of floral birthday cards.

The card bases are The Paper Studio.  The images are Gina K Botanicals stamped in Altenew Soft Lilac, Deep Iris, Mountain Mist, Lagoon, Blush and Crimson on a white of unknown origin.

The sentiment on the green card is Gina K Framed Greetings stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on Close To My Heart Lagoon and more white of unknown origin.  The card is highlighted with Patina Stickles.

The sentiment on the purple card is Annabelle Stamps All Things Grow stamped in Altenew Midnight Violet.  The image/sentiment panel is layered on a shimmery lilac and a shimmery pale grey of unknown origin.  The card is highlighted with Lavender Stickles.

The sentiment on the pink card is Waltzingmouse Say It With Style stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The butterfly sticker is of unknown origin.

This is a great trio of birthday cards.  All the colours are coordinated with the card bases.  It's somewhat disconcerting that I actually have enough ink colours with which to do all that coordinating.  The over-stamping of the images and the sentiments on the lighter shade of stamped words is particularly pleasing.  The three common looks, especially lined up together, are particularly pleasing.

I hope you enjoy these cards and come back to SPI again soon.
