Fabulous Floral

Hello everyone,

I decided to try playing with some of my new stamps today.

The images are Stampin' Up Remarkable You stamped in StazOn Olive Green and Timber Brown on Recollections White.  The images were painted with Wine & Roses, Olive Vine, Coral Berry, Mango Mambo, and Blushing Rose LuminArte Twinkling H2Os, highlighted with Wink of Stella Clear 999, and layered on Stampin' Up Mossy Meadow.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Four You stamped in StazOn Timber Brown.

I'm only OK happy with this card.  I love that it is big, bold and quite striking.  I wish I had been able to blend the paint better.  It's not terrible but I wish it was better.  I kept everything really simple because with flower of this size and colour, you really don't need a whole heck of a lot more.  I want to repeat this flower but colour the images using chalks.  I think it will offer a whole new, amazing look.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For A Woman

Hello everyone,

After yesterday's great masculine card I decided to use the flip side of the printed paper to craft a female birthday card.

The printed paper is Stampin' Up English Garden.  The image is Stampin' Up Watercolor Wings stamped in Crumbcake, Soft Suede, Night of Navy and Midnight Muse on Whisper White.  The image was die cut with Sizzix Bold Butterflies Framelits.  The sentiment, also Watercolor Wings was stamped in Midnight Muse on Whisper White.  The embellishments are TPC Studio Heartfelt Travel.

I am in love with this stamp set.  I mimicked the colours from the printed paper, though I should have used some Crushed Curry to work with the visible flower center.  It's still an awesome card!  The multi-step stamping was one of the easiest I've ever used.  The layers line up easily and the coordinating die cut was a breeze.  I will use this a lot!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For A Man

Hello everyone,

After taking a couple of days off carding and blogging, I'm feeling more like myself and my creativity is back.

The printed paper is Stampin' Up English Garden layered on Soft Suede, Night of Navy and Mossy Meadow.  The sentiment is Penny Black Happy, Happy stamped in Soft Suede on Whisper White and layered on Night of Navy.  The embellishments are Eyelet Outlet Enamel Dots.

I don't have any commissions at the moment and I wasn't in the mood to work on charity cards, so I decided to play with more of my recent Stampin' Up order.  I love this piece of paper for masculine cards.  This entire package of paper actually has a very nice balance of masculine and feminine prints so I know I will use it up easily.  I kept everything super simple so as not to distract from the great paper.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Blooming Garden

Hello everyone,

I've never been so happy to have my Stampin' Up order arrive.  Today's my daughter graduated high school and I'm so utterly pressed for time I needed today's card to come together quick and easy.

The printed paper is Stampin' Up English Garden layered on Blushing Bride and Mossy Meadow.  The images and sentiment are Stampin' Up Garden In Bloom stamped in Soft Suede and Mossy Meadow, and Close To My Heart Blush on Whisper White and layered on Soft Suede.  The flower centers are Ranger gold Liquid Pearls.

When I saw this watercolour set in the latest Stampin' Up catalog and it was a two-step stamp there was no way it wasn't going to end up in my basket!  My favourite technique is two-step stamping!  It is the answer for those of us whose colouring abilities leave somewhat to be desired.  I particularly love the latest Stampin' Up watercolour trend.  It appeals to me on every level.  As I said earlier, this card needed to be quick and easy so I kept the layout traditional and pretty much leaned on Stampin' Up.  The results are perfect!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Owl Thanks V

Hello everyone,

I was showing one of my colleagues the thank you cards I'd crafted for my girlfriend and was asked to craft another for her.  Too easy!

The printed paper is Recollections All Seasons layered on Stampin' Up Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry.  The image is Close To My Heart You're A Hoot stamped in Crushed Curry and Wild Wasabi on Whisper White and layered on more Crushed Curry and Whisper White.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Six-Sided Sampler stamped in Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo.  The embellishments are TPC Studio So Delish mini jewels.

I didn't have the time to do a punched owl so decided to use a stamp instead.  I think it worked just wonderfully.  I certainly didn't have the colour options that the punched owl offers but it is equally effective.  The sentiment is a cover-up because my first attempt was utterly crooked.  Thank goodness for workable options.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Natural Feminine Birthday

Hello everyone,

Today's card is the feminine version of yesterday's card.  A colleague asked me to craft a 50th birthday card for her girlfriend who is not a girly, girl.  I think this card will work beautifully.

The image are Sweet 'n Sassy Nature Silhouettes stamped in Close To My Heart Sweet Leaf, Slate and Whisper, and Stampin' Up River Rock and Crumbcake on Very Vanilla and layered on more River Rock and Slate.  The sentiment is my Mom's exceptional handwriting in Sakura Black Gelly Roll pen on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more River Rock.  The embellishments are Forever In Time Diamond Gem Strips.

I have three alphabet stamp sets.  One is quite juvenile, one has no numbers and one is missing the 'r'.  How do you lose an 'r' stamp?  I went through my daughter's alphabet sticker stash but didn't find anything suitable that had all the letters I needed.  My Mom has always had beautiful handwriting so I decided to ask her if she would give it a try.  I'm quite happy with the results.  It works perfectly for this card.  Now though, I think I need to do some letter stamp shopping.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Natural Masculine Birthday

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card for a friend.  One of his favourite places is the cottage so I decided to craft him a card which was all natural.

The images are Gina K Follow Your Dreams stamped in a variety of Stampin' Up watercolor crayons on Recollections Vanilla and layered on My Mind's Eye Trés Jolie "Out Out" and Chocolate Chip.  The sentiment was stamped in Close To My Heart Whisper ink.  The embellishments are Fabricland.

It is extremely rare for me to stamp scenes but I decided to brave it and see what happened.  I applied the watercolour crayons to the rubber stamps and spritzed them with water before stamping the impression.  I find this technique more forgiving than stamped scenes with ink or, heaven forbid, colouring.  This card turned out exceptionally well.  I know our friend will love it.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Happy Father's Day

Hello everyone,

Today being Father's Day, and I actually have it together, I'm posting the great golf card I crafted for my husband.  He is an awesome father!

The paper is Stampin' Up Real Red and Old Olive, and a blue of unknown origin (likely Recollections).  The images are K&Company Golf Sticker Medley.  The sentiment is Gina Marie All Seasons stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections White.

With all the golf cards I craft for my husband you'd think I wouldn't resort to stickers.  I do actually have a few golf stamps but when I saw these stickers, I couldn't resist putting them in my basket.  I love the colours in these stickers and obviously drew on them when choosing the background papers.  I was tempted to add more stickers from the set but couldn't find a placement that pleased my eye so I figured I had enough.  A very simple and straightforward card that was quick and easy.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Owl Thanks IV

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the last owl thank you card in this latest series that was commissioned by one of my girlfriends.

The printed paper is Recollections All Seasons layered on Stampin' Up Lucky Limeade, Close To My Heart Honey and Recollections White.  The owl is the Stampin' Up punch in Lucky Limeade, Blue Bayou, More Mustard, Basic Black and Whisper White.  The heart element of the owl was coloured with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The image is Avery Elle Brushed stamped in Soft Suede on Recollections White and layered on Blue Bayou.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Painted Petals stamped in Close To My Heart Twilight.

I think this owl thank you card is going to be another hit!  I have had such a wonderful time crafting these cards.  I have some leftover printed paper so I think I'll craft a few more for my stash or for the Fall charity card sale.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Owl Thanks III

Hello everyone,

Today's thank you card is the sole french card in the series that my girlfriend commissioned.

The printed paper is Recollections All Seasons layered on Stampin' Up Lucky Limeade and Recollections White.  The owl is the Stampin' Up punch in Close To My Heart Honey and Stampin' Up Lucky Limeade, More Mustard, Basic Black and Whisper White.  The heart element of the owl was coloured with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The sentiment is Bonnidee French Wording #1 stamped in Early Espresso on Recollections White and layered on More Mustard and Blue Bayou.  The twine is Target.

This is a super simple card that really takes advantage of the great printed paper.  It would have been a shame to cover up the lovely rulers.  I even debated added the twine but it does work with the rulers.  I've used these cute owls on all the thank you cards and crafted all four at the same time which certainly made it much easier to pull these cards together.  If I was really ambitious, I'd do a bunch of them and put them in my stash - unlikely to happen.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Owl Thanks II

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the second of four thank you cards that were commissioned by a girlfriend.

The printed paper is Recollections All Seasons layered on Stampin' Up More Mustard and Blue Bayou, and Close To My Heart Honey.  The owl is the Stampin' Up punch in Blue Bayou, Lucky Limeade, Basic Black and Whisper White, and Close To My Heart Honey.  The heart element of the owl was coloured with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The sentiment is Altenew Scribbled Flowers stamped in Early Espresso.

I try to be open to different sentiment placements and layouts so when I was thinking about this one, I decided it would be an opportune time to try something different with the sentiment.  I just love the results!  As I look over this card, I think I should have added a small Lucky Limeade square layer to the right side of the punched squares.  I may still yet.  At least give it a dry run to see what it looks like.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Owl Thanks I

Hello everyone,

One of my girlfriends asked me to craft some end-of-school-year thank you cards.  This series of four cards, which will post over the next few days, were so much fun to craft.

The printed paper is Recollections All Seasons layered on Stampin' Up Whisper White, More Mustard and Blue Bayou.  The owl is the Stampin' Up punch in More Mustard, Blue Bayou, Basic Black and Whisper White, and Close To My Heart Honey.  The heart element of the owl was coloured with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Thank You Messages stamped in Early Espresso on Whisper White and die cut with Sizzix Banners Framelits.

It is extremely rare for me to use this type of embellishment and even more rare for me to actually buy this type of punch.  I finally caved due to the owl's utter cuteness and because Pinterest offers a multitude, hundreds really, of options using this punch.  I think it will become one of those indispensable tools.  This paper was gifted to me by a fellow card maker and I saved it to use for these particular cards.  I'm so happy with the results.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simply Vintage

Hello everyone,

Today's charity Christmas card uses the last textured card base that I've been using up over the past few weeks.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The image is Penny Black Snowflake & Holly stamped in Stampin' Up Always Artichoke on Bazzill White and layered on Cherry Cobbler.  The ribbon is Multicrafts.  The embellishments is EK Success Swarovski Elements.

I was so happy with yesterday's vintage card, I couldn't help but craft another in the same style.  It took me a bit to figure out how to embellish this image.  I eventually decided on simple bow with a hint of bling after ruling out colouring with either markers or glitter because it would have been too similar to yesterday's card.  As I look at this photo, I realize I could have added a few more embellishments in the bottom right corner which would have balanced the card even more however, I'm still quite happy with the results.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simply Classic

Hello everyone,

Another extremely simple charity Christmas card today.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The image is Impression Obsession stamped in Close To My Heart Ponderosa Pine on Bazzill white and layered on more Ponderosa Pine.  The berries were coloured with Tombow 847 and highlighted with Wink of Stella Clear 999.  The banners were die cut with Sizzix Banners Framelits from a brushed silver of unknown origin.  The embellishments are EK Success Swarovski Elements.

I especially enjoy crafting vintage style Christmas card so I've got a pretty decent stash of stamps in that particular theme.  I hadn't originally planned to colour the berries but decided the pop of colour would add to the interest of the card.  In this case, the Wink of Stella doesn't add the glitter that I'd hoped and in hindsight, I probably should have used my Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.  I chose red embellishments because they speak perfectly with the red berries.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sweet Santa

Hello everyone,

Today's charity Christmas card uses a couple of wonderful scraps and a great sticker.  Easy peasy!

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed papers are October Afternoon Silent Night.  The image is Imaginisce Sticker Stacker.

I'm not sure a crafting a card could get any easier.  A couple of decent sized pieces of wonderful scrap paper and a great sticker.  I picked this sticker because it's style was more 'vintage' like the paper.  At first, the whiteness of the sticker had me doubting but once I held it up to the card, I decided I could live with it.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Spectacular Yet Simple

Hello everyone,

I've a pretty awesome charity Christmas card for you today.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The image is Inkadinkado stamped in Stampin' Up Midnight Muse on Bazzill white and layered on a brushed silver of unknown origin and Midnight Muse.  The embellishments are Mark Richards 3mm Silver Metal.

When the stamped image is this incredible, it doesn't take much to craft a really amazing card.  While I often find trees a real challenge to stamp, that just doesn't hold for this image.  I think its because the swirl makes the image appear more rectangular.  This is a perfect stamp for a sentiment-less card because the image is so interesting.  I think adding a sentiment may actually take away from the overall simplicity of the card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Delightful Dasher

Hello everyone,

A super simple charity Christmas card for you today.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed papers are My Mind's Eye Winter Wonderland.  The image is Stampin' Up Dasher stamped in Ridinghood Red on Bazzill white and clear heat embossed.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

Sometimes it astounds me how well clean and simple works.  I could have, quite easily, added a sentiment but I'm working hard to resist the temptation.  Without a sentiment, I find I have to have texture and layers to ensure the card is visually appealing.  Thank goodness for my bottomless scrap bin and Stickles.  There are some decent size pieces of scrap paper which allowed me to have this large band which is perfect for Stickles.  The image is large enough that the clear embossing and more Stickles are enough.  So simple but so effective.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Terrific Tree

Hello everyone,

A wonderful Christmas tree card for you today.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed paper is Fancy Pants Merry Little Christmas layered on Bazzill white.  The tree is die cut from Elizabeth Craft Designs Ribbon Tree from Stampin' Up Early Espresso, Old Olive and Real Red, and a shimmery white and shimmery blue of unknown origin.  The tree is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

Trees are not my forte so I really debated buying this die however I found the branches just too appealing to resist.  It's a great die for using up little bits of scrap paper.  There are option for large trees like this or a smaller version along the same lines.  I didn't get the Early Espresso piece aligned properly so it looks a little wonky but that only adds character.  I offset the tree as well as the layered element because I thought it would work better for a sentiment-less card.  It did but I'm at a loss to explain exactly why.  I hadn't intended to use Stickles but it was already on my desk and the circles are perfect for Stickles.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simple Elegance

Hello everyone,

Yet another charity Christmas card for you today.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed paper is Anna Griffin Winter Wonderland layered on a brushed silver of unknown origin.  The ornament is Cottage Cutz Filigree Ornament Trio die cut from a brushed gold of unknown origin.  The brad is also of unknown origin.

I'm still working with pieces from my scrap bin of Christmas papers and going sentiment-less.  This card couldn't be more quick and easy.  I have to qualify that because this particular die is a right, royal pain in the butt.  No matter how I put together the sandwich, I have to use an Exacto knife to remove the intricate pieces from these dies.  It's so frustrating that every time I use this die, I swear I'll throw it out.  All that said, this card turned out great!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sparkling Snowflakes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another Christmas card for the charity card sale at the office this Fall.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed paper is Wild Rose Studio Frosted Lace layered on Bazzill white and Close To My Heart Twilight.  The image is Penny Black Crystal Wreath stamped in Twilight on Bazzill white, highlighted with Mermaid Stickles and die cut with a Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The snowflake is Spellbinders Create-A-Flake Three die cut from a scrap of Twilight that was glittered with Crystal Glitter Ritz.

I really love this Wild Rose Studio papers.  The non-traditional colours with the snowflakes and holly just put me in a happy place.  I love using Stickles on this particular stamp.  The multitude of snowflakes just begs for embellishments.  I'm not that fussy on the scallop circle but I was trying to mimic the 'lace' in the top right corner of the printed paper.  I didn't realize, until I was placing the card in its envelop, that this card actually works on the horizontal as well as the vertical.  A happy accident!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Wonderful Wreath

Hello everyone,

Today's Christmas card takes advantage of a wreath stamp and die cut I'd not yet used.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed paper is American Crafts Kringle & Company layered on K&Company Tim Coffey.  The image is Stampin' Up Wondrous Wreath stamped in Always Artichoke and Ruby Red on Recollections Vanilla and highlighted with Xmas Red Stickles.  The image was die cut with a Sizzix Wreath Framelit.

As much as I love Christmas I find wreaths, like trees, a really challenge to use because they are circles and triangles, not lovely and conforming squares.  That being said, I'm utterly thrilled with this wreath and I think it's the die cut that is doing it for me.  This card worked so well, I can't wait to try it on other Christmas cards.  I wasn't overly happy with the berries so I used the Stickles to liven them up a bit.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sparkly Santa

Hello everyone,

The next few weeks are incredibly busy so I took some time to craft a number of cards to feed the blog for the next while.  I am finishing with the DCWV textured card bases by crafting Christmas cards for the Fall card sale.

The textured card base is DCWV.  The printed papers are American Crafts Kringle & Company.  The image is Delta Rubber Stampede Santa Collage stamped in Stampin' Up Ruby Red on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more vanilla and Kringle & Company.  The image is highlighted with Xmas Red Stickles.  The ribbon is American Crafts.

I have never used this stamp and not had it be one of the first cards to go at the card sale.  I am hoping the same will hold for this beauty.  I've challenged myself to use only scrap Christmas paper and no sentiments.  The scraps were easy, sentiment-less was more difficult.  I really like all the different reds at play on this card.  The glitter is a great contrast to the vintage strip of scrap paper.
I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Fantastically Feathered

Hello everyone,

It's been a beautiful Saturday and I was quite distracted by a number of things today.  By the time dinner was done, I realized I still hadn't crafted today's card so figured I better creative and soon!

The images are Stampin' Up Four Feathers stamped in Lost Lagoon and Pool Party, and Close To My Heart Juniper.  The sentiment is Denami Design Upright Happy Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The embellishments are Close To My Heart Aqua Dots.

It's been a long and productive day but I'm quickly running out of steam.  I decided to go for a really quick and easy card.  I've seen a number cards along these lines on Pinterest and decided to see what I could do without using the coordinating die cut.  I'm quite happy with the results.  I really love these shades of green.  Stamping the feathers off the page is also interesting and something I love to do, though I don't do it often.  I will most certainly try this again!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon!

Coloured Blossoms III

Hello everyone,

Today's card is the third of the coloured floral birthday card set I've been posting over the past few days.

The image is Penny Black Delicate Florals stamped in StazOn Timber Brown on Recollections Vanilla, coloured with Stampin' Up Night of Navy and Old Olive Blendabilities and layered on Night of Navy and Old Olive.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday stamped in Night of Navy.  The embellishments are Keepsakes Memories.

I don't have a favourite card in this three card set.  They all turned out just wonderful!  I will say though, this card is particularly beautiful.  I think by the third card I was getting the hang of the amount of pressure I needed for the markers.  I also didn't shy away from using the blender pen.  I especially love the vertical sentiment.

I crafted and blogged these three cards in just over ninety minutes on Wednesday night.  Not bad when all is said and done.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Coloured Blossoms II

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the second card of the floral birthday card set I crafted yesterday.

The image is Penny Black Delicate Florals stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White, coloured with Stampin' Up Calypso Coral and Old Olive Blendabilities and layered on Calypso Coral and Old Olive.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday stamped in Old Olive.  The embellishments are Keepsakes Memories.

I'm not a fan of Calypso Coral but choose to purchase the Blendabilities to have colouring options besides pink and burgundy.  I'm actually pretty happy with the colour as the three tones give pretty decent options.  I am finding it a challenge to colour because you need an extremely light touch otherwise they bleed over the lines something terrible.  I couldn't find any coral embellishments (go figure!) so I used some deep orange which actually worked extremely well with the coral.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Coloured Blossoms I

Hello everyone,

I'm rather pressed for time over the next few days so decided I craft a set of three quick and easy floral birthday cards.

The image is Penny Black Delicate Florals stamped in StazOn Jet Black on Recollections White, coloured with Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Blendabilities and layered on Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Happy Birthday stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Recollections White.  The embellishments are Keepsakes Memories.

I found this set of Penny Black florals utterly appealing even though I knew colouring would be involved whenever I used them.  That said, they are great images on which to practice with markers because they're pretty simple and straightforward.  I decided, given the simplistic images, to keep the layout simple and the embellishments pretty minimal.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bloomin' Birthday

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of friends whose birthdays are just around the corner so while I was in Birthday card mode, I thought I'd see what I could craft.

The printed paper is Stampin' Up Painted Blooms layered on Soft Sky.  The image is Stampin' Up Mother's Love stamped in Wild Wasabi on Recollections White and coloured with Tombow 098, 679, and 772.  The sentiment is Gina Marie All Seasons stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Recollections White and layered on more Soft Sky.  The ribbon is Dashes, Dots & Checks.  The embellishments are Keepsakes Memories.

There are times when you want to go wild and colourful and there are times when you want to go soft and sweet.  This is definitely a soft and sweet card.  My girlfriend is a quietly sweet woman and this card suits her perfectly.  This has to be one of my favourite Stampin' Up papers of all time.  The watercolour style is extremely forgiving making it perfect for this two-step stamp.  I am also quite enamored with this Gina Marie set of sentiments.  It is so versatile and goes with virtually every style of card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Brotherly Birthday

Hello everyone,

My wonderful brother will be celebrating his birthday in a couple of weeks so I had to craft him a very special card.

The images are Stampin' Up Gorgeous Grunge stamped in Crushed Curry, Elegant Eggplant, and Glorious Green on Recollections White and layered on Crushed Curry.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Loved Ones stamped in Elegant Eggplant on Recollections White and layered on more Crushed Curry.  The embellishments are of unknown origin.

My brother spent some really wonderful years in New Orleans so I often turn to Mardi Gras themed cards.  This particular card uses the gold, green and purple colours of Mardi Gras.  I seriously love the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamps in these colours.  I used Crushed Curry to layer because it was the ink I used with the smallest splatter stamp and I wanted to make the colour pop.  I think it worked quite well.  I kept the brads small and gold because my brother is out of town and I didn't want too much thickness to have to mail.  I'm pretty sure he'll appreciate his card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.
