Perfectly Filmed

Hello everyone,

Today’s post is a special birthday card that I crafted for one of my husband’s co-workers to give to his mother who, along with her son, is very much a film buff.

The film strip is of unknown origin layered on Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Bermuda Bay and Basic Black.  The sentiment is Sentimentally Yours More Scribbled Sentiments stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The embellishments are of unknown origin.

I’ve never used a film strip embellishment before but I just had to give it a try for this birthday card.  What other type of card could I craft for a movie aficionado?  I had to splice the film because the middle frame wasn't really appropriate for a mother's birthday card.  I really love having all the elements on the angle, which is absolutely not part of my usual layout repertoire.  This certainly ranks up there as one of my favourite, if not one of my best cards ever!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Golden Goodness

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the last Christmas card from my recent carding blitz.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a glittered gold also of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Stampavie Tina Wenke Holiday Wishes stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed with Close To My Heart gold embossing powder.  The embellishments, from glittered gold, were die cut from Lea'bilities Border/Corner Holly.

As soon as I saw this piece of paper, I knew I'd have use it on a card.  This end up an even more formal and traditional card than I'd planned.  It was a bit of a challenge placing the sentiment because I didn't want to cover either the holly or the poinsettia.  I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try this new die cut that I'd picked up a while back.  I love how these corners hug the sentiment.  This card is as wonderful as I'd hoped.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Shiny Celebration

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a more contemporary Christmas card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a mirrored gold also of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Stamp Barn stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Stampin' Up Whisper White and layered on more mirrored gold.  The banners are punched from a mirrored red of unknown origin.  The embellishments are Mark Richards 3mm gold metal.

This is truly a card made from scraps.  The gold snowflakes on this printed paper, which was donated by Crop A While, are embossed in gold so it only seemed logical to use mirrored paper for the layers.  I couldn't resist using a few banner during this card crafting blitz and I really love how the mirrored red pieces work with the red snowflakes.  This ended up a much more modern card than the ones crafted so far.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Quilted Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another Christmas card crafted during my recent blitz.

The printed paper is Echo Park "Christmas Cheer" Cozy Quilt layered on Stampin' Up Basic Black.  The sentiment is Cornish Heritage Farms Vintage Christmas Expressions stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Whisper White and layered on more Basic Black.  The card is highlighted with Candy Cane Stickles.

This Christmas card is yet another quick and easy card.  The paper is so wonderful, I kept the layout really straight forward so as to not cover up any more of the paper than necessary.  I choose to use black again because I've been so pleased with the other cards in which I've used black.  The black also works particularly well with the black hexagons that are visible.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Ornaments In A Row

Hello everyone,

Today's post uses another strip of Christmas paper that I just couldn't resist.

The printed paper is Echo Park "I Love Christmas" Border Strips layered on a red and green Bazzill.  The sentiment is Cornish Heritage Farm Vintage Christmas Expressions stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Stampin' Up Whisper White.  The cording is of unknown origin.

This was another really easy card to craft because of this great paper.  I often find that using striped paper from a 12 X 12 sheet can be challenging because the scale of the images are not always right for cards, especially these smaller ones.  The options can be pretty limited.  This isn't the case with this card.  These ornaments are just perfect!  The row or ornaments inspired me to use the cording as if they were hanging.  I so love this card!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Poinsettia Strip

Hello everyone,

Today's Christmas card use another beautiful strip of printed paper.

The printed paper is Echo Park "I Love Christmas" Border Strips layered on a red and green Bazzill.  The sentiment is Kaisercraft Christmas Sentiments stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Stampin' Up Whisper White and layered on more red Bazzill.  The embellishments are Recollections Rhinestones.

I had such success with the truck strips paper that when I saw more great Christmas strips I decided to try my luck again.  I must have used all my bad carding karma on yesterday's card because this is all good!  I chose this particular sentiment because the font style speaks to the pine boughs on the printed paper.  I had originally stamped the sentiment directly on the printed paper (hoping for quick and easy) but the impression was really bad and I didn't want to risk flubbing it further by trying again with my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.  A cover-up was the solution and even though it hides some of the printed paper, I think this card turned out just fine.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Flakes In Blue And Grey

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the second non-traditional card crafted with the same image/sentiment as yesterday's card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Recollections grey and a shimmery blue Bazzill.  The grey layer was embossed with Darice Snowflakes embossing folder.  The image/sentiment is Stampin' Up Nature's Secret stamped in Altenew Desert Night on Very Vanilla.  The card is highlighted with Disco Ball Stickles.

Of all the cards I crafted, this was the one which gave me the most challenges.  I thought about it too much in choosing the layering papers.  I even spent time considering using the printed paper as a layer for the image.  Once I finally settle on these papers, things came together rather well.  I love the grey, and embossed with the snowflakes, it's really lovely.  I think my bottle of Disco Ball Stickles is getting old because it doesn't flow like the others.  It's very dry and I have to carefully manipulate it into a dot.  I think it was inevitable given the issues I had with this card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Purple Peace

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago I stamped a ream of images from a set I borrowed from a neighbor.  The next couple of posts shows what I did with the Christmas images.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a shimmery ivory of unknown origin and Close To My Heart Thistle.  The image is Stampin' Up Nature's Secret stamped in Altenew Cosmic Berry on Very Vanilla.  The ribbon is of unknown origin.

I love mixing things up every now and again to craft a really non-traditional Christmas card.  This card is really, really purple in the photo but quite a bit more pink in reality.  I bemoan my picture-taking skills.  Regardless, the ink colours were choose specifically to work with the printed chevron paper upon which the image is layered.  It has some beautiful and rich non-traditional winter colours.  I love this type of image/sentiment because the focal point is all in a single panel.  These images are little large in scale for the card size but I rather like the boldness.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Holly On Black

Hello everyone,

Today's Christmas card uses another beautiful scrap of holly paper.

The printed paper is Anna Griffin layered on Stampin' Up Basic Black and Bazzill green.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Embellished Ornaments stamped in Altenew Jet Black on an unknown ivory and layered on more Basic Black.  The ribbon is Offray.

I have a number of sheets of this paper and always planned to craft a one sheet wonder but just haven't gotten around to it.  After today's card however, I'm itching to give it a go.  I so liked the black that I used on this past Wednesday's card I thought I try it again here.  The black really makes this lime green colour pop and there is enough black in the print, that it doesn't look off.  I really wanted to use some ribbon (I have tons) and decided on this black and white plaid even though the base of the paper is more of an ivory as opposed to white.  Unless you look really closely and critically, I don't think it matters over much.  I really love this card so expect a one sheet wonder soon.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Simple Holly Sprigs

Hello everyone,

There was no way a craft Christmas cards without using some holly paper.

The printed paper is Echo Park "The Story of Christmas" Holly layered on Bazzill Red Devil.  The sentiment is Rubber Soul Wordsworth Merry Christmas stamped in Altenew Evergreen on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Red Devil.  The embellishments are BoBunny Elf Magic Jewels.

Given I was determined to do this card crafting blitz, I knew the cards had to be relatively simple and extremely straightforward.  That said, I still wanted them to be beautiful.  This is a perfect example.  I thought the font in this simple sentiment had the same look and feel as the images in the printed paper.  It's a bit of a larger sentiment but it isn't heavy because of the simple lines.  A few small Christmas pearls were all the extra embellishment needed.  I love the results.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sweet Santa

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another really quick and easy Christmas card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Recollections Grey and green Jim Holtz Ranger Core'dinations.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Clear Stamps Set stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Recollections Vanilla and layered on a glittered platinum/brown of unknown origin.

This is a truly amazing card that came together in minutes.  I carefully trimmed this image from a 12 X 12 sheet of paper to fit the dimensions of the card base.  I chose a straight forward sentiment that fit in this oval punch.  I wanted a bit of sparkles so I punched the layer from a great piece of glittered paper.  The platinum/brown colour works perfectly with the vintage style of the image.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Another Christmas Delivery

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another card crafted during an afternoon blitz.

The printed papers are of unknown origin layered on Bazzill Red Devil.  The sentiment is Stampendous Script Greetings stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla.  The embellishment is American Crafts.

I didn't originally plan to craft two cards with this single 12X12 strip but these trucks were too irresistible.  I debated using the red and green layers again but when I saw this snowflake paper in the pile, I thought it would work perfectly.  I don't usually think of using black in Christmas cards but in this case, with the black elements in the trucks it really works.  The Altenew black ink doesn't stamp as crisp as the Versafine Onyx Black but I found it worked really well with these more vintage style papers.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Christmas Delivery

Hello everyone,

With a little extra time over this past holiday weekend I decided to try a carding blitz.  I know my mojo is truly back because I managed to craft a dozen charity Christmas cards in an afternoon!  Without thinking too much, I just went for it and it was awesome!

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Bazzill Red Devil and Stampin’ Up Mossy Meadow.  The Bazzill layer was embossed with Sizzix Merry Christmas Phrases embossing folder.  The ribbon is of unknown origin.

All the printed papers and some of the solid papers for this series of Christmas cards was donated by one of our local scrapbooking stores, Crop A While.  This store is incredibly generous and I found some very wonderful pieces to use on these charity Christmas cards.  This particular strip of paper had these great trucks that I thought would make for a couple of great masculine Christmas cards.  I didn’t even use a sentiment because the embossed red layer provides all the words needed.  This is a really great result that took only minutes to come together.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Happy Houses

Hello everyone,

I just couldn't resist crafting another card with this fabulous house paper.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill Mustard.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Designer Tee stamped in Nick Bantock Chartreuse Leaf on Whisper White.  The ribbon is of unknown origin (likely American Crafts).

As I crafted this card I was thinking it would be one to give as a housewarming.  I deliberately used a thinner ribbon (it was in the scrap drawer) and a very simple and smallish sentiment.  I really wanted these houses to be the focus.  They're so much fun, they shouldn't be covered up.  I really love the pop of the green ribbon.  Both cards turned out so well.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Bowtiful Hello

Hello everyone,

It's a very corny title!

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Bazzill red.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Four You stamped in Crushed Curry on Very Vanilla and layer on more red.  The ribbon is Stampin' Up 1/2" polka dot.  The embellishment is of unknown origin and is highlighted with Xmas Red Stickles.

I love this house paper so much!  It is so fun it's no wonder I came up with such a corny title for this blog post.  Like yesterday's printed paper, there are so many different colours that it is really easy to find colours with which to coordinate.  I thought this bright bold 'hello' was perfect for such a fun card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Iridescent Wings

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card which was crafted for the charity card sale at the office this Fall.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill mustard.  The sentiment is Hero Arts stamped in Stampin' Up Midnight Muse on Whisper White.  The butterfly was punched (or possibly die cut) from an iridescent paper of unknown origin.  The embellishment is of unknown origin.

This card was totally inspired by this wonderful printed paper.  Will all the different colours, it works with absolutely everything.  I chose a simple sentiment and a single large butterfly because I didn't want to cover any more of the paper than necessary.  I didn't event  layer the sentiment!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Her Birthday

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the girl version of yesterday's card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Melon Mambo.  The vertical strip is a Bazzill green textured with Cuttlebug's Happy Birthday embossing folder.  The sentiment is Impression Obsession Vertical Greetings stamped in Melon Mambo on Whisper White.  The ribbon is Stampin' Up 1/2" Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon.  The card is highlighted with Fruit Punch Stickles.

I think this is a really great girl card.  I love the colours which work so very well with the printed paper.  It amazes me how changes a few colours and embellishments makes for such an entirely different card.  As masculine as yesterday's card was, today's is especially girly.  These pink elements are just great.  Both cards turned out wonderfully!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

His Birthday

Hello everyone,

After finishing the series of plaid cards I decided to use some of the other great paper scraps that I had put aside as I was especially drawn to them.

The printed papers are of unknown origin.  The vertical strip is a Bazzill green textured with Cuttlebug's Happy Birthday embossing folder.  The sentiment is Impression Obsession Vertical Greetings stamped in Altenew Persian Blue on Recollections White.  The embellishments are of unknown origin.

I can't say why I found this particular paper so appealing but I think it's because it could be used for either a boy or a girl card.  I also loved the cartoon style lines of the images.  I figured it would be interesting to make both a boy and a girl card with similar elements.  As I was going through the stash of embossing folders, I found this 'happy birthday' folder and thought it would be as fun as the printed paper.  This vertical sentiment is also a lot of fun as are these cute little dinosaurs.  A great kid card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Perfect Plaid III

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the last card I crafted using some of the scrap plaid paper that was donated by our local scrapbook store, Crop A While.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Mossy Meadow and Basic Black.  The Mossy Meadow layer was textured with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots embossing folder.  The image is Gina K Tree Silhouettes stamped in Mossy Meadow on an ivory of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Gina K Labeled With Love stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on more ivory of unknown origin.

These masculine plaid cards have been really fun to craft.  I wish I had more pieces of this great paper because I really could have crafted more.  These set of tree silhouette stamps is really wonderful and I don't know why I don't use it more often.  I'm not certain why I chose to stamp the image on the right side of the panel but I quite like it, especially with the branches just a titch off the edge of the page.  A great card and a great series.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Perfect Plaid II

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another masculine plaid card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Mossy Meadow and Basic Black.  The Mossy Meadow layer was textured with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots embossing folder.  The sentiment is Gina K Labeled With Love stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on an ivory of unknown origin.  The embellishment is Jolee's Boutique Metallic Ornaments Stickers.

In addition to crafting some great masculine plaid cards with this paper, I decided to only use sentiments from this particular Gina K set.  It is a great stamp set with a variety of sentiments that all work well for masculine cards.  I came across this sticker when I was looking for a cardinal for Sunday's card and thought it would be perfect for this masculine Christmas card.  I love the result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Perfect Plaid

Hello everyone,

In the donated material from Crop A While, I came across three small scraps of a great plaid that I thought would be perfect for masculine cards.

The banners were punched from Basic Black.  The embellishments are EK Success Shimmering Silver Dots.

This is such an perfect plaid for some masculine cards.  When I was first putting these elements together, I felt the Mossy Meadow layer needed texture.  I thought I had a plaid embossing folder but couldn't find it so I ended up using this Swiss Dot folder.  It was a good choice, maybe better than a plaid, because of the subtle contrast with the lines of the plaid.  Of course, I've been loving this little banner punch so couldn't resist adding them to this card.  Banners and plaid are a great combination.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Season Of Beauty

Hello everyone,

The next few posts will be charity cards that are crafted with some spectacular material donated by a very generous local scrapbooking shop - Crop A While.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Bazzill white and Close To My Heart Twilight.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Clear Stamp Set stamped in Twilight on Recollections white and layered on Stampin' Up Whisper White.  The embellishment is Doodlebug Frosty Flakes Braddies.

I know it's Spring and today's temperatures are quite warm but when I cam across this beautiful piece of paper, I just had to craft a winter card.  I was thinking it would be a perfect masculine or neutral holiday card.  It's so soft and simple.  These are the types of cards I just love to craft.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies VI

Hello everyone,

Today's post is the final kiddie card in this series.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill green.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Sassy Salutations stamped in Nick Bantock Chartreuse Leaf on Stampin' Up Whisper White and layered on a Bazzill red.  The stickers are Twin Seven.

Still inspired by the primary stripes of the earlier boy cards, I found this great chevron paper in my scrap bin.  It was perfect for these funky animal stickers.  The colours coordinate so perfectly you'd think they were from the same company.  I couldn't craft a kid's card without using the Sassy Salutations sentiment as it is one of my all time favourites for these types of cards.  I could easily repeat the quick and simple card over and over.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies V

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another great girl card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a Bazzill pink textured with Crafts-Too Butterflies embossing folder and Pion Design Palette Pion Blue I.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Four You stamped in Melon Mambo on Whisper White and layered on more Pion Blue I.  The stickers are Twin Seven.  The sentiment and pink Bazzill are highlighted with Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.

It was a no brainer that a set of Twin Seven butterfly stickers would end up in my stash.  While I love all the stickers, the butterflies are really sweet and perfect for a little girl card.  I didn't worry overmuch about coordinating the background papers perfectly with the stickers as I really wanted the butterflies to pop and as long as the colours were not totally out of whack, I figured it would work just fine.  This card ended up being really great.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies IV

Hello everyone,

After a couple of boy cards, today's post is for the girls.

The printed paper is Studio Calico Hashtagged layered on a textured yellow Bazzill.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Altenew Coral Berry on Stampin' Up Whisper White and layered on more yellow.  The stickers are Twin Seven.

I had the worst time situation this cool cat stickers.  I knew I was going to use three but it was hard to work it so the heads and tails were placed the right way.  I had hoped to coordinate the cats with the colour rows of the background paper but again, there was that heads and tails issues.  The filler stickers I used are really great.  I especially love the little paw print.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies III

Hello everyone,

Today's kiddie card is another great sticker and paper combination.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Whisper White and Bazzill green.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Tin of Cards stamped in Nick Bantock Chartreuse Leaf on Whisper White.  The stickers are Twin Seven.

I so liked the bright colours and bold stripes of yesterday's robot card I decided to case it for this space card.  These particular primary colours work so very well with the stickers.  I debated making this a vertical card but placing the rocket on an angle just seemed right.  There are a lot of smaller filler stickers in these sets so this sun was perfect to fill the leftover space.  A wonderful result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies II

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another kiddie card.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Bazzill mustard.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Designer Tee stamped in Altenew Desert Night on Whisper White.  The image is a Twin Seven sticker.

This is another super easy card made great by one of the fantastic Twin Seven stickers my neighbor turned me onto.  I love this robot sticker and against this striking stripped paper, it is a fabulous card.  This card couldn't have been any easier to craft and I just love the result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

For The Kiddies

Hello everyone,

I thought I'd try a series of kid cards which are always a lot of fun to craft.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a pink, white and green Bazzill.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Tin of Cards stamped in Close To My Heart Sunset on Whisper White and layered on Bazzill blue.  The embellishments are Twin Seven stickers.

My girlfriend turned me on to these stickers from the dollar store and I thought they'd be perfect for some kid cards.  I ended up buying a number of different packages because it was so hard to choose.  These cards are quite simple but really sweet.  I ended up crafting an entire series of cards in a single afternoon and had a great time.

I hope you enjoy these cards and come back to SPI again soon.

Calling Spring

Hello everyone,

Today's card certainly came together easily so I'm hoping my grove is coming back.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on Stampin' Up Whisper White and Bazzill mustard.  The image is Stampin' Up Nature's Secret stamped in Altenew Warm Sunshine on Whisper White and layered on more Bazzill mustard.  The vertical element is punched with EK Success Bangle Chain Trim from a Bazzill green.  The butterflies are glittered, watercoloured smooshed paper.  The embellishments are Peacock Liquid Pearls.

I love this printed paper.  It reminds me of my daughter's favourite baby blanket - from 20 years ago.  This is another of the stamped image/sentiments I borrowed from a girlfriend.  I wish I'd cleaned it a little better from the previous impression because it turned out a little muddy.  That said, I decided to work with it as is and think I succeeded.  The butterflies were done years ago, when I first discovered this glitter technique.  They couldn't work better with the image and the printed paper.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

A Little Shimmer

Hello everyone,

I know it's Spring but I thought I'd try a Christmas card to see if I can't keep the crafting mojo moving forward.

The printed paper is of unknown origin layered on a shimmery grey and ivory also of unknown origin and Close To My Heart Outdoor Denim.  The image is Stampin' Up Nature's Secret stamped in Outdoor Denim on Whisper White and layered on more Outdoor Denim.  The ribbon is Offray.  The embellishment is Crafts.

It didn't seem all that bizarre to craft this non-traditional Christmas card.  I love the ikat chevron pattern and the colours are really wonderful.  The ikat pattern also worked really well with the vintage style of the stamp.  I didn't originally intend to add ribbon but this particular layout works especially well for a great piece of knotted ribbon.  This ribbon is has an iridescent shimmer that worked perfectly with the purple, navy and teal.  A pretty good final result that didn't require hours of agonizing decisions.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.
