Vintage Teddy II

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a congratulations card which uses the front of an earlier recycled card.

The image is a recycled card layered on Stampin' Up Pool Party and a yellow Bazzill.  The image and first layer were cut with Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The yellow layer was textured with Couture Creations Washed Away embossing folder.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Express Yourself stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Pool Party.

This card recycles the front of the earlier Vintage Teddy card.  I wasn't sure I'd get such a great piece from the front as I thought the original sentiment would overlap.  I actually think I may even get another card from the remaining leftovers.  I'm quite thrilled with the result.  I don't always like working with yellow but this layer worked particularly well.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Sweet Girl

Hello everyone,

Today’s sweet recycled card is one of my favourites.

The image is a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Pixie and Black.  The sentiment is Stampin’ Up Four You stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Pixie and Black.  The card is highlighted with Star Dust Stickles.

This is my favourite in this week’s batch of recycled cards.  I really love this sweet little girl and I chuckle at the kitten being tempted by the bird feeder.  The paper of the original card has a little bit of a texture and it is showing its age because it was a bit of a challenge to trim.  I had to use a new blade in my cutter.  I added just a bit of sparkle to the flowers and the sentiment which I think really helped this sweet card come together.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Tiger Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today’s post recycles another old birthday card.

The image is a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Black and Tangerine.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Altenew Jet Black on Recollections White and layered on more Black.  The star embellishment is of unknown origin.

This is another card that I knew I would recycle.  How could I not take advantage of this great tiger?  I’d first though about just using the tiger’s head but then I’d have had his tail seemingly attached to nothing.  By keeping the entire image and placing the sentiment in the design ‘sweet spot’, I think makes for a much nicer card.  If nothing else, it was really easy and turned out really well.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Puppies

Hello everyone,

Today’s post recycles one of my third birthday cards.

The image is a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Indian Corn Blue and Cocoa.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin’ Up Garden Green on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Cocoa.  The star brads are of unknown origin.

These pups are so darn cute.  I was actually quite pleased to recycle this card into a little boy’s card.  I did trim off the sentiment, which was on a banner at the top of the original card.  I thought it would look kind of funny but, to me, it just looks like the puppies are peeking of of a tent.  I think it’s a great result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Window

Hello everyone,

Today’s card post recycles a card I received from a friend when I was about nine or ten.

The image panel is a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Bamboo and Stampin’ Up Blackberry Bliss.  The sentiment is Stampin’ Up Wetlands stamped in Early Espresso on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Blackberry Bliss and Bamboo.

This is (was) a very pretty card.  I quite liked the idea of a window on a window.  The colours and the yellow butterflies really drew my eye to this card.  I placed the sentiment in the design sweet spot, layering it on different shaped punched pieces to add interest but not overwhelm the image panel.  I chose not to add any embellishments because I didn’t want to detract from that wonderful image panel.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Birdies

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card uses multiple images from the original card and is very similar to one of my earlier 'retro' cards.

The images are from a recycled card and are layered on Close To My Heart Clover Meadow and Holiday Red.  The images and layers were cut with a variety of oval and scalloped oval Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The sentiment is Verve Amazing Wishes stamped in Altenew Expresso.  The card is highlighted with White Opal Liquid Pearls.

This flock of birds and the brilliant red hydrangea on the original card were just too wonderful not to try and get as many images as possible.  Two of the birds are carrying little cards.  These were actually from the inside of the card.  I think I'll be able to get at least two more card from original front.  The original card was a 'get well' card but I've  no idea from what I was recovering.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sweet Vintage Baby

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card uses another sweet teddy bear image.  The original card was given to my parents from my mother's cousins when I was born.  I still send them a Christmas card every year.

The image is from a recycled card and is layered on Close To My Heart Pixie and Dutch Blue.  The Pixie banner was textured with Sizzix (Stampin' Up) Pattern 2 plate.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Itty Bitty Banners stamped in Dutch Blue on Recollections Vanilla and cut with the coordinating Sizzix die.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

This is one of two (possibly three) images that I recycled from the original card.  The paper is a vellum that feels a bit like parchment paper.  The original card is damaged with a stain but I'm going to see if it can still be recycled.  This part of the card is also stained, but it's not quite so obvious especially once it was glued to the Pixie layer.  The sentiment actually covers up some writing that I couldn't avoid when I was cutting the circle.  I really love this sweet baby card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Puppy Mischief

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled puppy card is one of my favourites in this series.

The image is from a recycled card and is layered on Close To My Heart Garden Green and Buttercup.  The layers were cut with circle and scallop circle Spellbinders Nestabilities and were highlighted with Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Four You stamped in Mellow Moss on a Bazzill white, layered on more Garden Green and highlighted with Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.  The embellishment is of unknown origin.

I seriously love this little puppy!  He/she looks like trouble!  I'm not a big fan of yellow cards and don't use it all that often because I find it really hard to work with.  In this particular case, yellow was a must and the Close To My Heart Buttercup coordinated perfectly.  The Garden Green breaks up all the yellow nicely, allowing focus to remain on the puppy.  I couldn't resist using a 'hello' sentiment and I love how the punches rather mimic a dog tag.  I think I'm going to use this card myself and can't wait to send it to someone!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Puppy Love

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card uses one of two images harvested from the original card.

The image is from a recycled card and is layered on Close To My Heart Glacier and Buttercup.  The layered was cut with a scalloped oval Spellbinders Nestabilities die.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Itty Bitty Banners stamped in Soft Suede on Recollections Vanilla and cut with the coordinating Sizzix Itty Bitty Banners Framelit.  The card is highlighted with Gilded Gold Stickles.

This little puppy is seriously adorable!  I really love the artwork on the card and was thrilled to find a second image on the inside of the original card.  The kerchief is very '70s!  I think I did a much better job with the Stickles placement using more restraint than I showed on yesterday's teddy card.  I've had this Stampin' Up sentiment set for a while and it's not a favourite.  It's exceptionally challenging to get the die centered over the image/words.  I added the banner otherwise I felt the sentiment would float too much.  It worked really well for connecting the image panel with the sentiment.  A great result!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Teddy

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card uses a sweet teddy bear image.

The image is from a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Hollyhock and Stampin' Up Smokey Slate.  The layers were cut with a variety of Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes stamped in Altenew Pure Graphite on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Hollyhock.  The ribbon is Multicrafts.  The card is highlighted with a gold Pentel Sunburst Metallic pen.

So I may have gone a little overboard with the gold Pentel pen.  I started replicating the dots on the original image but I just kept going.  It works just fine but I think I could have followed the 'less is more' principle.  I love this little bear image.  The grey and pink are not subtle and it was easier than I thought to find coordinating colours.  I seem to be turning to scallops for these vintage cards because it really seems to work in this context.  I did something a little different by raising the image panel on dimensionals instead of raising the sentiment.  I like the change.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Pink Roses

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card is another beautiful floral.

The image is from a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Cotton Candy and Fern.  The layers were cut with rectangular Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The sentiment is Gina Marie All Seasons stamped in Altenew Lava Rock.  The ribbon is from Dollarama.

I didn't have a large enough oval die to cut this card front without losing a lost of the image so I decided to go rectangular.  I'm not sure I've ever used the rectangle Nestabilities that I've had since I bought my first Big Shot (I'm now on my third!).  I think the scallops really suit the vintage aspect of the card, as does the gingham ribbon.  It's a really beautiful Mother's Day card!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Mischievous Kitten

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another recycle vintage kitten card that was originally a valentine.

The image is from a recycle card layered on Close To My Heart Peacock.  The sentiment is Hero Arts Small Greeting stamped on Recollections Vanilla in Close To My Heart Peacock and layered on Cotton Candy.  The card is highlighted with Fruit Punch Stickles.

Like yesterday's card this one also required some creative cutting to remove the original Valentine heart at the top.  It left quite a large space at the top of the card but I didn't want to trim off any more of the yarn ball than necessary.  I love how the kitten is looking at the sentiment!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Vintage Kitten Cutness

Hello everyone,

I'm still crafting with vintage recycled cards.

The image is from a recycle card layered on Close To My Heart Clover Meadow and Baby Pink.  The sentiment is Gina Marie All Seasons stamped in Altenew Lava Rock on Recollections White.  The embellishments are Recollections pink pearl stickers.

I love this kitten's beautiful green eyes.  I had to do a little careful cutting to remove the old sentiment and it was a challenge to trim everything square.  I used the mini pearls in the upper left corner (where the original sentiment was placed) to fill in what turned out to be a more of an awkward space than I'd figured on.  I think the final result is wonderful!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Another Retro Iris Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's recycled card is my favourite of this group.

The image is from a recycle card and is layered on Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry, Pale Plum and Blackberry Bliss.  The sentiment is Gina K Pleasant Plurals stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Recollections Vanilla.  The card is highlighted with Platinum Liquid Pearls.

This is one of the most beautiful cards!  I love the embossed scallop angle.  That the image is under the scalloped edge adds such great interests.  I debated making this a vertical card but the bouquet falls to the right and I it would have looked really odd to be vertical.  The Platinum Liquid Pearls coordinates perfectly with the grey tones of the image.  I love this card so much I don't know if I'll be able to put it in the sale box.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Iris Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a good bye card using another piece of the recycled sympathy card.

The image is from a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Ponderosa Pine and Stampin' Up Wild Wasabi and Rich Razzleberry.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up Wild About Flowers stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Recollections Vanilla and layered on more Ponderosa Pine.

The original card has some very interesting angled folds and I couldn't square up this image to lose the angled bottom left corner without losing too much of the original image so I decided to just work with it.  I don't think it takes anything at all away from this card!  I placed this sentiment over a slightly damaged part of the original card.  It's in the 'sweet spot' so it couldn't be a better cover up!  I didn't add any embellishments or ribbon but I like the simplicity of the layers and this wonderful image didn't need anything else.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Iris Wishes

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a birthday card that recycles a vintage sympathy card.

The image panel is a recycled card layered on Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry and Wild Wasabi.  The shapes were cut with Spellbinders oval Nestabilities.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday stamped in Rich Razzleberry.  The ribbon is of unknown origin.  The card is highlighted with White Opal Liquid Pearls.

I managed to salvage three pieces from this single, beautiful sympathy card.  I love the purples and greens in the images which are so delicate.  I was attempting to craft this card to evoke an old photo portrait and I think it's not too bad.  The sentiment font has the feel of old-style pen and ink which just adds to the overall vintage feeling.  I really like the result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Butterflies In Flight

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a card that was commissioned by a girlfriend.

The image is Memory Box Fairyland Butterflies die cut from a piece of paper that was made with shaving cream and Stampin' Up Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy re-inkers, and Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy cardstock.  The image is layered on Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy.  The sentiment is Verve Artful Elegance stamped in Close To My Heart Outdoor Denim.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

My girlfriend asked for an uplifting card with butterflies and of course, I could deliver that pretty easily.  I got the idea for this butterfly card from a Simplicity card that Susan Raihala posted on the weekend.  I found the die cut butterflies layered on white especially appealing.  I think I'm doing better with 'random' dot placement.  I will most certainly be replicating this card because I just love it!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

One More Retro Tulip Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's post uses the last bit of the tulip Easter card I've been recycling over the past few days.

The image panel is from a recycled card and is layered on a red and green Bazzill and a gold of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso.  The embellishments are Mark Richards 3mm gold metals.

This part of the original image didn't need any fussy cutting and I kept some of the lines of the cross because I was quite pleased with yesterday's results.  I decided to use a vertical sentiment which also has a bit of a retro feel to the font.  The corner placement of the embellishments was to provide a little bit of balance.  This card turned out just as beautiful as the last two.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Another Retro Tulip Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another card I crafted using the recycled Easter card from yesterday.

The image panel is from a recycled card and is layered on a red Recollections and a gold paper of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Flonz Happy Birthday stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso.  The card is highlighted with Gold Liquid Pearls.

The tricky part of trimming this panel was cutting the right side so I didn't lose the tulip and leaf that overlapped the cross.  I decided leaving some of the lines of the cross on the right side actually worked and I love the subtle flourish at the bottom.  I chose a more Art Deco font for the sentiment as I think it works really well with the overall retro feel of the card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Tulip Bouquet

Hello everyone,

Today's retro recycled card really had me thinking of my Mom because of the pussy willow branches in the bouquet.

The image panel is from a recycled card and is layered on a red Bazzill and a gold paper of unknown origin.  The pieces were cut with Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The sentiment is Avery Elle So Happy stamped in Altenew Permanent Black.  The embellishments are Mark Richards 3mm gold metals.

The original card actually had a couple of usable images so there will be another card or two crafted with a similar feel.  I do so love this bouquet!  The image and colours are just so lovely and have held up remarkably well.  This was actually an Easter card that had a gorgeous textured and gold embossed cross on the front.  I love, love, love the re-purposed birthday card!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Kitten Cuteness

Hello everyone,

Today's retro card post is a great little girl's birthday card.

The image panel is from a recycled card and is layered on a yellow Bazzill and an American Crafts mint green.  The sentiment is Rubbernecker Happy Birthday stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Recollections vanilla.  The card is highlighted with Mint Green Liquid Pearls.

This is such an adorable kitten, I just couldn't resist seeing what I could do with it and I need to add some kid cards to my stash.  The image is actually textured and I doubt it was done with an embossing folder.  I was going to add some Stickles but couldn't find a good colour to coordinate so I decided to add some Liquid Pearls.  I popped up the sentiment to add more interest and it fit perfectly in the upper right hand corner.  I think this is such a cute kid card!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro So Adorable

Hello everyone;

Today's post is one of my favourite recycled baby cards so far.

The images are from a recycled card and are layered on Stampin’ Up Pale Plum.  The card is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.  All the pieces are cut with Spellbinders Nestabilities.

I think the cuteness factor of this card is off the charts!  There were a lot of little images (I didn't even use them all so more to follow) all over the card so the different sized oval shapes of the Spellbinders Nestabilities were perfect for getting the most out of the original card.  I used different sized dimensionals (a.k.a. pop dots) to add more depth to the card.  I decided against adding a sentiment because I really couldn't find a clever way to include one without it being awkward.  I love the dots of sparkle from the Stickles.  I'm going to want to keep this one!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Throwback Thursday

Hello everyone,

As I was sorting through the baby/kid keepsakes that my mother passed along a few years back, I found this card that I had made when I must have been around five or six (I’m guessing).  I never realized that my card making skills went that far back.  I don't think I could have found a better card to post for a 'Throwback Thursday'!  I'm actually going to keep it, maybe I'll even put it in a frame.  Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Baby Welcome

Hello everyone,

Today’s post is another recycled baby card that my mother had stashed away for the past 50 odd years.

The image panel is a recycled card layered on Close To My Heart Heavenly Blue and Marianne Design Basic Watercolour Bloc.  The sentiment is Stampin’ Up Short and Sweet stamped in Altenew Ocean Waves.  The ribbon is Sheer Creations.  The button embellishment is of unknown origin.

I really love the soft blues and pinks in this card and the shaped edge is wonderful.  I dug out some of my favourite rainbow ribbon for an accent and found the button embellishment couldn’t be a better match.  I debated placing the sentiment on an angle beneath the image but I don’t think that would have worked all that well with the overall ‘vintage’ style of the card.  It’s a lovely result.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Retro Sweet Girl

Hello everyone,

Today’s post is a loving recycled card.  This card uses part of a card my parents received when I was born.  A few years ago my mother gave me a batch of cards she'd saved for all these years.  We’re talking late 1960s and early 1970s.   I've decided to try to recycle some of them.

The image panel is a recycled card layered on a brushed gold of unknown origin, Recollections vanilla and Stampin’ Up Pink Pirouette.  The sentiment is Creative Expressions Elegant Alphabet stamped in Altenew Pinkalicious.  The card is embellished with Petal Pink Liquid Pearls.

This was originally a baby girl card but after I cut it down, I realized it could be a lovely little girl card.  I didn’t quite know what to do with all these beautiful, retro cards and to be honest; I put them in and pulled them out of the blue bin a couple of times before deciding that I could make some really beautiful new cards.  I wish I’d though to take pictures of the original cards before I put them in the paper cutter.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Lucky Layers

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a 'good luck' card that doesn't thrill me.  Never make a card when you're tired!

The vertical panel is a piece of Brusho painted watercolour paper layered on Stampin' Up Night of Navy, highlighted wit Ranger Alcohol ink Silver Mixative.  The sentiment is Microsoft Word layered on more Night of Navy and Recollections green.  The embellishments are Jolee's All That Bling Dimensional Variety Studs Stickers.  The card is highlighted with Platinum Liquid Pearls.

It's been a long time since I crafted a card that I'm really not crazy about.  There isn't a whole lot about this card that I like and the more I tried to do so I would like it, the worse it seemed to get.  NEVER MAKE A CARD WHEN YOU'RE TIRED.

Au Revoir

Hello everyone,

Today's post is a goodbye card that will replenish my stash.

The card base was stamped with Stampin' Up Gorgeous Grunge and Close To My Heart Mink.  The background paper was made with shaving cream and a variety of Stampin' Up re-inkers, and was layered on Stampin' Up Certainly Celery and Crushed Curry.  The sentiment is Microsoft Word font layered on more Certainly Celery and a Crushed Curry banner.  The embellishments are Crafts Rhinestone Strips.

This is a one of the first pieces of paper I crafted using the shaving cream technique.  I just love the swirls.  I'm trying to use up some of the stash of leftover papers I have on hand and it's getting just a little out of hand.  It is spring time and that means moving season so I know I'm going to need a variety of 'goodbye' and 'good luck' cards in both English and French.  This is a start!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Dark Wings

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another Yupo / alcohol ink experiment.

The image is Stampin' Up Swallowtail stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Yupo paper that was sprinkled with a variety of Ranger alcohol ink.  The focal panel is layered on Stampin' Up Whisper White and a violet of unknown origin.  The sentiment is Avery Elle So Happy stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on more Whisper White.  The embellishments are Recollections Rhinestone Borders.

This is another card that was a tough to craft.  I originally used Brusho on the Yupo paper but it was just awful!  The great thing about Yupo paper is that because it's a synthetic paper, the Brusho washed right off. allowing for a do over!  I decided to go back to the alcohol inks and I while I love the background, the image actually smeared.  I decided to try lightening the ink with a cotton swab dipped in Ranger alcohol ink blending solution.  It's not the greatest but it is interesting.  I wish I could have gotten the image even lighter but it was time to just stop!  I don't hate this card but it's not my favourite swallowtail card.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Sweet Sympathy

Hello everyone,

Today's post is another card with a Yupo paper background.

The image is Stampin' Up Serene Silhouettes stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on Stampin' Up Whisper White.  The background layers are Yupo paper dipped in water that was sprinkled with Ranger alcohol ink, Stampin' Up Whisper White, and Close To My Heart Sweet Leaf.  The sentiment is Close To My Heart Sincere Expressions stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on more Whisper White.  The embellishment is Marianne Design Butterflies.

This card just didn't want to be crafted!  I originally planned to stamp the image directly on the background but I dropped the stamped and made a big smoosh so I had to use a cover-up.  The sentiment also smooshed so that needed a cover-up too.  I came across this marbling Yupo paper / alcohol ink technique with this Jennifer McGuire technique video.  It didn't turn out like I expected but I do love how soft it turned out.  I'm going to keep working on it.

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.

Naturally For Him

Hello everyone,

Today's birthday card post is a uses an amazing piece of alcohol inked Yupo (synthetic) paper.

The background uses a variety of Ranger Alcohol ink and Yupo paper, and is layered on Close To My Heart Grey Flannel and Bazzill Bitter Chocolate.  The sentiment combines Avery Elle's Sentimental Too die cut in an unknown ivory and Close To My Heart's Happy To Be Friends stamped in Stampin' Up Early Espresso on more ivory.

This is one incredible card!  I just had so much fun playing with this Yupo paper and alcohol inks.  I was utterly gobsmacked with this particular results and actually have no idea if I could ever replicate it!  I first heard about Yupo paper through a Jennifer McGuire YouTube video tutorial that can be found here.  This is a super simple card (at least once the background layer is done) using a simple sentiment that really lets the amazing background layer be the focus.  A phenomenal result!

I hope you enjoy this card and come back to SPI again soon.
